Membership


While membership is to be unrestricted as to residence, the club's primary purpose is to be representative of the breeders and exhibitors in the greater Ft Lauderdale area.

Purpose of the club:

·         To promote cooperation and friendship among breeders and owners of Labrador Retrievers.

·         To promote interest in breeding the Labrador for retrieving ability and conformation, to promote interest in training the Labrador for field trials, obedience trials, shows, gun dog, and personal companion.

·         To urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which the Labrador Retriever shall be judged.

·         To do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed by encouraging sportsman-like competition at dog shows, obedience shows and field events as well as public awareness and education.

·         To conduct Sanctioned and Licensed specialty shows, obedience trials and field events under the rules of the AKC.

 

There are four types of membership open to all persons' eighteen (18) years of age or older who are in good standing with the AKC and subscribe to the purposes of the Club. Applicants choosing individual and joint memberships must attend 3 meetings before their application will be voted on.  We also request that those members attend a minimum of 6 meetings per year. Sustaining members enjoy all of the privileges except that they do not have voting rights.  This category of membership is recommended for people who do not feel that they will be able to attend 6 or more meetings per year due to a busy schedule or geographic location

 

1.       Individual Membership: One person eighteen (18) years old or older. An individual member enjoys all the privileges of the club including voting and holding office.

2.       Joint membership: two people 18 years old or older, living in the same household, both of whom enjoy all the privileges of the Club, including voting and holding office.  Each individual is entitled to a separate vote.

3.       Sustaining: One person eighteen (18) years old or older. Enjoys all of the privileges of the club except voting or holding office and does not count in the determination of a quorum.  

4.       Junior Membership: A person younger than eighteen (18) years of age.  Junior members will not be eligible to vote. Junior members may automatically convert to regular membership upon reaching their 18th birthday.
